Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a General Lab Phlebotomist to collect blood and other clinical samples for testing. The role involves venipuncture, skin puncture, urine collection, and specialty collections, while maintaining specimen integrity and patient identification.

You will report to the Assistant Director of Pathology, work with laboratory staff, and adhere to infection control and turnaround time standards.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience in a like or similar position is preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Ability to communicate well with patients, family, peers and medical personnel.
• Able to read and understand graphs and performance improvement data sheets.

Responsibilities

• Collect clinical samples using venipuncture and skin puncture.
• Ensure proper patient identification.
• Maintain blood drawing trays and equipment.
• Meet established turnaround times for STAT, In AM, Timed, and routine orders.
• Utilize laboratory computer systems, collection lists, kiosk system, and pending logs.
• Assist clerks with receiving specimens and answering phones when available.
