Job description

Full-Time | Auburn, MA
Competitive Hourly Pay Based on Experience

Looking for a phlebotomy position where you can do more than just draw blood?

Child Health Associates is seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our pediatric laboratory team in Auburn, MA. We are a busy, well-established pediatric practice that values teamwork, respect, and creating a positive experience for both our patients and our employees.

Phlebotomy will be a primary responsibility of this position, so we're looking for someone who is confident and skilled in venipuncture and comfortable working with children and adolescents.

But this isn't a draw-only position.

We're looking for someone who wants to be an active member of the laboratory team and is willing to learn and perform additional laboratory responsibilities. Depending on training and competency, this may include processing specimens, performing approved laboratory and point-of-care tests, operating laboratory equipment, documenting and reporting test results, maintaining supplies, and supporting the day-to-day operation of the lab.

If you're an experienced phlebotomist who enjoys variety, likes learning new skills, and wants to become an important part of a pediatric clinical team, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do
  • Perform venipuncture and blood collection on pediatric patients
  • Work with infants, children, adolescents, and their families to create a calm and positive blood-draw experience
  • Select appropriate collection tubes and ensure specimens are collected correctly
  • Accurately label and handle specimens
  • Follow established procedures for patient identification, specimen collection, and infection control
  • Recognize collection issues and take appropriate steps when specimens cannot be obtained or do not meet requirements
Laboratory Responsibilities

This position goes beyond phlebotomy. You'll also be trained and expected to participate in the daily operation of our laboratory, including:

  • Receive, prepare, process, and route laboratory specimens
  • Centrifuge and prepare specimens as appropriate
  • Perform approved laboratory and point-of-care testing after required training and demonstration of competency
  • Operate laboratory equipment according to established procedures
  • Document and report laboratory results accurately
  • Prepare specimens for transport to outside/reference laboratories
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and assist with inventory
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Follow established laboratory safety, quality-control, and infection-prevention procedures
  • Assist with other laboratory and clinical support responsibilities as needed
What We’re Looking For
  • Hands-on phlebotomy experience required
  • Must be comfortable performing blood draws throughout the workday
  • Pediatric phlebotomy experience strongly preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred, but not required Experience in a physician office, outpatient laboratory, hospital, or similar healthcare setting preferred
  • Laboratory or point-of-care testing experience is a plus, but not required
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional laboratory procedures and testing
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to follow established laboratory procedures and safety standards
  • Comfortable working with children and communicating with parents and caregivers
  • Ability to remain calm and patient when working with anxious or fearful patients
  • Dependable, organized, and able to work efficiently in a busy environment
  • Team-oriented attitude and willingness to help wherever needed
The Person Who Will Thrive in This Role

We're looking for more than someone who can draw blood well.

You'll be a great fit if you're the type of person who wants to understand the entire laboratory workflow. You're willing to learn how tests are performed, how specimens are processed, how equipment is maintained, and what it takes to keep a busy pediatric lab running smoothly.

You take pride in accuracy, don't mind jumping in where you're needed, and understand that every specimen represents a child and family depending on us for their care.

  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid vacation time
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Life insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Stable schedule and excellent work-life balance
  • Supportive team environment
  • Opportunity to expand your laboratory skills and experience
Why Child Health Associates?

Our culture is one of our greatest strengths. We believe that great patient care starts with a team that feels supported, respected, and valued.

Our laboratory plays an important role in caring for our patients, and we're looking for someone who wants to become a valuable part of that team—not simply perform blood draws and move on to the next patient.

We work hard, help one another, and take pride in providing children and families with excellent care.

If you're a skilled phlebotomist who wants the opportunity to expand your laboratory experience and become part of a supportive pediatric team, we'd love to hear from you.
