Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Some college credits in biology or chemistry preferred.
• One year hospital laboratory experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification program with national registry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy, including venipuncture, finger and heel sticks.
• Performs departmental tasks such as restocking, taking temperatures, centrifuging specimens, etc.
• Uses two-identifier patient ID and matches armband to test order; resolves discrepancies before collection.
• Labels all tubes/containers with required elements in the presence of the patient.
• Organizes workload to collect, transport, and distribute specimens.
• Collects chain of custody drug screens per procedure.
• Enters test orders and maintains a neat work area.
• Shift/workstation may be changed as workload dictates.
• Adheres to infection prevention protocols with every patient encounter.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and PHI handling.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
