Job Description
The Phlebotomist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

The Phlebotomist provides expert phlebotomy services, demonstrating excellent customer service and communication skills. Must work effectively as part of a team that prioritizes “Patients First”.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to venipuncture collection, specimen processing, order entry, verification of test results, patient information retrieval, and clerical duties.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs phlebotomy and lab specimen collections per standards and departmental policies.
  2. Utilizes AIDET model to enhance patient safety and care.
  3. Receives and reviews physician orders; ensures completeness and accuracy.
  4. Provides post-phlebotomy patient care and communication.
  5. Processes specimens promptly, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging.
  6. Monitors refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records, reporting issues accordingly.
  7. Operates and maintains lab equipment properly.
  8. Communicates specimen procurement issues to appropriate personnel.
  9. Maintains a safe work environment, adhering to biohazard waste procedures.
  10. Performs clerical duties such as order entry, result verification, and inventory management.
  11. Uses resources efficiently, aiming to reduce costs and streamline processes.
  12. Completes continuing education and competency assessments.
  13. Demonstrates teamwork and professional interaction.
  14. Applies critical thinking and sound judgment in challenging situations.
  15. Adheres to organizational policies and ethical practices.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from a recognized organization, training from an accredited institution, or one or more years of healthcare experience in phlebotomy or CMA certification.

Preferred:

  • Experience with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with specimen processing and handling centrifuges.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
