Business: Boys Town National Research Hospital

Job Summary:

In a career as a Phlebotomist, you join us in providing life-changing care to patients from across the region. In this role, you will utilize knowledge of pre-analytic information/techniques to successfully perform capillary and venous blood collections. You will evaluate specimen integrity and correlate test results with the clinical picture of each individual. Perform medical lab testing for patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsible for adherence to all policies and procedures related to blood and body fluid collection, processing, testing, and storage.

Schedule: On-Call

Location: Pacific Street

Major Responsibilities & Duties:
  1. Demonstrates advanced technical skill in blood sample collection and acts as a resource to clinic and hospital personnel. Evaluates and accurately processes samples upon receipt.
  2. Operates testing instrumentation, performs testing using kits, evaluates results, and reports according to established policies and procedures. Communicates with physicians and staff regarding procedures and results.
  3. Performs and records quality control procedures.
  4. Stocks supplies, fills supply orders for clinics, and communicates needs to the Laboratory Director or designee.
  5. Acts as a departmental liaison, providing information on specimen requirements, test results, troubleshooting guidance, and referring problems within departmental guidelines.
  6. Performs clerical functions including completing requisitions for reference lab testing, faxing results, conducting Quality Assurance audits, and filing test records and regulatory documents.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS certification.
