Responsibilities

Analyzing lab testing is complex. Our lab staff play a vital role in diagnosing and treating diseases by helping determine patient conditions. Our phlebotomists work with patients to perform blood collection, specimen processing, assist with clerical duties, and maintain lab collection turnaround times. Some of your duties will include:

1. Practice positive patient identification at all times in all job functions.
2. Demonstrate kindness and courtesy in all interactions with patients and coworkers, maintaining good communication within the department and hospital.
3. Follow proper isolation and hand sanitization procedures.
4. Perform blood collection procedures, including venous and capillary punctures across all age groups, using appropriate techniques to meet quality and quantity standards.
5. Conduct Blood Bank collections following written procedures, demonstrating accuracy and good penmanship, and adhering to specimen requirements.
6. Keep phlebotomy trays, stations, and storage areas clean and organized.
7. Prioritize work activities to meet laboratory turnaround times, organizing draw requests efficiently.
8. Assist with phlebotomy training under supervision.
9. Handle specimen processing, intake, and distribution within testing areas.
10. Use good judgment in problem-solving and seek help when necessary.
11. Support department workflow and team collaboration to ensure efficiency and foster a positive work environment.

Qualifications

No prior experience is necessary; training in phlebotomy methods will be provided!

Requirements include:

• High School diploma or GED
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire
• Excellent customer service and time management skills
• Phlebotomy certification and/or at least 3 months of phlebotomy experience are preferred
