Job summary

Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a Phlebotomist (Days) to perform blood collection, ensure patient safety, and maintain specimen integrity in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

You will verify patient identities, label samples accurately, and process specimens in the LIS and Central Processing area, while upholding HIPAA and institutional standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in phlebotomy or on-the-job training.
• CLIA-regulated laboratory experience preferred.

Responsible for accurate patient identification, specimen integrity, and sample labeling. Interacts with customers in a pleasant, efficient, and cooperative manner. Additional duties include receipt of samples in Laboratory Information System and processing of samples in Central Processing. May also assist in clerical duties of the department, training new employees, and teaching phlebotomy students.ScheduleGenerally scheduled Monday-Friday 830A-5P1. Demonstrates competency of phlebotomy skills and techniques including venipuncture, blood cultures and special collections on an annual basis.2. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence consistent with hospital-wide and department specific standards.3. Greets, identifies, and interacts with all patients in a courteous and confidential manner. Responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonaJ skills while considering physical, psychological, spiritual, and educational issues.4. Demonstrates teamwork, cooperation, and respect to internal and external customers alike.5. Demonstrntes behaviors of service excellence consistent with hospital-wide and depat'tment specific standards.6. Responds to outpatients within lO minutes of arrival to the laboratory.7. Answers phone calls within three rings, with name, department, and service-oriented demeanor.8. Maintains a positive demeanor and is professional in both appearance and approach.9. Maintains exceptional communication skills, both verbally and written, to effectively interact with department leadership and staff of all levels.10. Observe safety, fire, inclement weather and infection control standards and regulations.11. Complies with HIPAA guidelines through entire phlebotomy process.12.
