The Patient Service Center Phlebotomist works in a Patient Service Center (draw station) located within a Beth Israel Lahey Health - Primary Care practice, a dedicated office suite in a medical office building, or in a doctor’s office. In this role, you will perform specimen collections, provide exceptional customer service, and serve as the face and voice of the BILH Laboratories to patients.

Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Perform venipunctures, including blood culture collection, and fingersticks, ensuring proper ID/labeling of specimens and using vein preservation techniques.
  2. Perform and report bleeding times according to standard operating procedures.
  3. Ensure adequate stocking of supplies and report needs to phlebotomy leaders.
  4. Transport specimens from the collection site to the testing site.
  5. Participate in laboratory programs for QA, competency, mandatory training, and continuing education.
Required Qualifications:
  1. High School diploma or GED required.
  2. Registration preferred: ASCP Registered; Certification preferred: NCA Certification.
  3. 0-1 years of related work experience required.
  4. Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate web-based applications.

  1. Written Communications: Ability to read and write in English to understand safety instructions, take direction, communicate effectively with patients and staff, and respond to basic questions.
  2. Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English to follow safety instructions and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  3. Knowledge: Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures; specialized knowledge not required.
  4. Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with colleagues and external contacts to share ideas, identify issues, and deliver services.
  5. Customer Service: Ability to provide high-quality customer service in a professional, respectful manner, remaining calm in stressful situations.
Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently. The role includes standing for periods and moving throughout the hospital campus.
