Job summary

Witham Health Services in Indiana is seeking a Laboratory Support Specialist to perform order entry, review physician orders for medical necessity, and communicate essential information to the lab team. This role greets patients, assists with phlebotomy draws, and helps maintain audit trails for timely billing and accurate records.

The position requires a high school diploma and phlebotomy experience; knowledge of ICD-9/10 coding and order-entry systems is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Two-three years of Laboratory experience preferred.
• Previous phlebotomy experience and or training required.
• A working knowledge of Medical Necessity, Local Medical Review Policies, Diagnosis / ICD-9 -10 Coding preferred.
• Experience with Laboratory Order Entry systems preferred.

• Perform Order Entry and review Physician orders for Medical Necessity, signatures, completion, diagnosis codes, faxing information and notification information to include faxing information pre and post specimen collection.
• Greet patients and assist with assigning and organizing phlebotomy draws.
• Monitor patient traffic, maintain audit trails and capture correct information for accurate and timely billing.
• Collect specimens from patients, maintain laboratory requisition and result records, and insure efficient operation of daily laboratory duties.

Performs Order Entry, reviews Physician orders for Medical Necessity, signatures, completion, diagnosis codes, faxing information and appropriate physician notification information to include faxing information pre and post specimen collection (Audit Trail). This position will also include, but is not limited to: greeting patients, assisting with assigning and organizing phlebotomy draws, monitoring patient traffic, maintaining audit trails and capture correct information for accurate and timely billing. The position is the premier customer liaison for the Laboratory and requires excellent customer service. Collects specimens from patients, maintains laboratory requisition and result records, and insures efficient operation of daily laboratory duties.
