Position: Phlebotomist Lead

Location: LAB-PHLEBOTOMY & OTHER (Billings Clinic Main Campus)

Shift: Weekends, Nights
Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)
Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)
Starting Wage DOE: $19.68 - 24.60

Job Overview

The Lead Phlebotomist is a leader to the centralized Phlebotomy staff in the clinic and hospital settings. In this role, you will have the opportunity to grow your career in the laboratory, influence staff and leadership, participate in training, create work schedules, and assist with coverage. You will also keep your phlebotomy skills current by performing benchwork.

Essential Job Functions
GENERAL
  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.
Lead Responsibilities
  • Assists and supports Laboratory Management by providing leadership and oversight of daily operations, including scheduling and prioritization.
  • Acts as a resource to staff, responding to procedural questions and resolving issues.
  • Orients new staff and provides ongoing training and education.
  • Participates in hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary processes.
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory requirements.
Phlebotomy Responsibilities
  • Collects and prepares patient specimens, including blood, urine, sputum, and cultures, coordinating with healthcare providers as needed.
  • Follows established guidelines for patient and specimen identification, addressing non-compliance situations.
  • Uses computerized systems for orders, charges, reports, and inquiries.
  • Coordinates with healthcare providers regarding test orders, results, and procedures.
  • Communicates with patients and families, providing instructions and addressing questions.
  • Provides backup coverage for laboratory clerks as needed.
  • Maintains inventory and work area cleanliness.
  • Sets personal growth goals and maintains competency standards.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • On-the-job training available.
  • CPR certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Preferred: ASCP or AMT Phlebotomy Certification.
Additional Qualifications
  • Courses in mathematics and science preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of Fit Testing for respirator wear.
  • Equivalent education and experience considered.
  • Licensed or certified employees must be in good standing.
