Summary:
Responsible for performing all the duties of a phlebotomist, including specimen collection, receiving, and referrals.
CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150-bed hospital serving the rapidly growing area of San Antonio. It offers specialized services such as orthopedics, surgery, ICU, women’s services, a newborn nursery, comprehensive cardiovascular care including diagnostics and open heart surgery, vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, the CHRISTUS Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, and more. The campus also features an Outpatient Imaging Center and three medical plazas, one of which hosts our CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program and Family Health Center.
Responsibilities:

- Maintain compliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, and other regulatory standards, including privacy and security of health information (PHI).
- Keep the collection area clean, sanitary, and well-stocked.
- Procure supplies for the department in collaboration with the team lead.
- Perform all phlebotomy duties: specimen collection, receiving, and send-outs.
- Prepare specimens for outside lab referrals, including ordering tests, packaging, arranging transportation, and completing referral paperwork.
- Collect various patient specimens such as venipuncture, capillary, urine drug screens, skin tests, and cultures.
- Ensure specimen collection meets requirements and maintains integrity.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and colleagues.
- Operate laboratory computer systems for documentation, registration, and order entry.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including on-call, inventory management, and cross-training.
- Complete performance evaluations and competency assessments timely.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Completion of a recognized Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory, or Medical Assistant program including phlebotomy is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, data entry, and organizational skills.
Experience:
- One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) preferred.
- Phlebotomy Tech (PBT) certification or state licensure required in Louisiana.
Work Schedule:
5 days a week, 8 hours per day.
