Summary:

Responsible for performing all duties of a phlebotomist, including specimen collection, receiving, and referrals.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150-bed facility in San Antonio offering specialized care such as orthopedic, surgical, ICU, women’s services, cardiovascular, and more.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, privacy/security of PHI).
• Keep work area neat, sanitary, and stocked.
• Procure supplies in cooperation with team lead.
• Perform all phlebotomy duties and specimen handling, including preparation and referral.
• Collect specimens using various methods, ensuring specimen integrity.
• Communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Operate laboratory computer systems for documentation and order entry.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including standby/on-call, inventory, and training.
• Complete performance evaluations and competency assessments timely.

Education/Skills:

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Completion of a relevant program including phlebotomy preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, data entry, and organization skills.

Experience:

• One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Certification from an accredited program preferred.
