In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

The Phlebotomist

Provides general laboratory services including specimen collection using routine venipuncture, order entry, blood component preparation, pre-analytic processing of specimens, as well as related clerical tasks such as entering orders into the system, answering phone calls, and managing faxes. The incumbent may be responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens. The ideal incumbent will possess strong customer service skills and be highly compassionate.

• Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory work or coursework in biological, chemical, or related sciences preferred.
• May require a valid Indiana driver’s license and a good driving record over the last three years.
• May require an understanding of traffic laws in the State of Indiana.
• Requires proven computer skills.
• Requires telephone skills.
• Requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Requires ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.
• May serve on committees or projects contributing to the department's overall purpose and functions. Specific responsibilities and requirements to be added by Consultants.
