Job summary

Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, CA seeks a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our patient-focused laboratory team. You will competently collect blood and other specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort, safety, and accurate labeling for every sample.

Under supervision of licensed staff, you will follow standard procedures, maintain equipment, and assist with timely processing of tests while upholding the hospital’s commitment to quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid and current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate.
  • Must complete required continuing education requirements to maintain State CPT I certification.
  • Three or more years of full-time laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy and collects specimens for diagnostic testing.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of other non-licensed personnel when appropriate.
  • Operates and monitors automated lab equipment under supervision.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance and quality control as directed.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions exactly and completes work promptly.
  • Recognizes limitations of non-licensed position and refers issues to licensed personnel.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Phlebotomist, you will competently collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort and safety.

Every day you will identify patients, explain procedures, proficiently perform venipunctures, and accurately label/prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, adhering to safety protocols.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills for accurate diagnostics and patient satisfaction.

  • Performs phlebotomy as needed to ensure quality patient care. Obtains adequate, appropriate specimens from patients of all ages in a timely manner.
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of other non-licensed personnel when appropriate or requested. Assists phlebotomists in monitoring STAT and add-on tests in a timely manner
  • Under the direct supervision of licensed clinical laboratory scientists or pathologists, operates automated chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and/or microbiology equipment and analyzers that have been properly calibrated and standardized by licensed personnel.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance as assigned and supervised by licensed clinical laboratory scientists. Runs quality control and proficiency specimens as directed and supervised by licensed clinical laboratory scientists.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions exactly. Is responsible for prompt and accurate completion of all work assigned.
  • Knows job thoroughly. Recognizes the limitations of this non-licensed position and consistently refers issues involving judgment to licensed clinical laboratory scientists in an appropriate and timely
Job Requirements

Required

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory terminology is preferred.
