Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum division seeks a phlebotomist to perform venipuncture, in-house testing, and specimen preparation at the Dallas site.

Schedule: Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. You will prepare equipment, collect samples, enter data, maintain confidentiality, and follow lab protocols. Requires HS diploma, national certification or registration, 2+ years phlebotomy and 6+ months QC experience. Benefits include PTO and health coverage.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current national certification or registration as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist or ability to obtain within 180 days.
• 2+ years of phlebotomy experience.
• 6+ months of experience performing routine blood and urine tests.
• 6+ months of experience with equipment and testing to perform quality control checks.
• Basic level of computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products.
• Performs venipuncture using vacutainer, syringe and butterfly techniques; capillary punctures using heel and finger stick techniques on patients. Identifies and labels specimens.
• Conduits designated laboratory testing.
• Instructs patients on urine collection procedures and allocates urine specimens.
• Cleans and sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work area.
• Inventories supplies and places orders.
• Enters laboratory data into computer system.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and accuracy of data.
• Monitors biohazard waste and ensures timely maintenance of equipment.
