Job description

Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Duration: 3 months

Location: Fairfax, VA 22031

Shift: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm

Summary

The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) represents the face of our company to patients, whether as part of their routine health visits or for important health decisions. The PSR II draws quality blood samples, prepares specimens for lab testing, and follows established procedures.

They have direct contact with patients, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence by explaining procedures and drawing blood skillfully, safely, and accurately. The PSR II demonstrates leadership, process excellence, and maintains confidentiality and accuracy in handling patient information.

Depending on operational needs, the role may be assigned to a doctor's office, a patient service center, or other locations. Under supervision, the PSR II performs daily activities accurately and timely, maintains a safe and professional environment, and handles both forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing.

Responsibilities include verifying patient demographic information, labeling tubes in the presence of patients, and maintaining records and documentation. The role promotes a positive image to patients, clients, employees, and the public.

Job Requirements
  1. Ability to deliver quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
  2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  3. Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
  4. Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed.
  5. Adherence to policies, procedures, dress code, and safety standards.
  6. Good judgment and decision-making skills based on established procedures.
  7. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
  8. Willingness to travel and work flexible hours across multiple locations with short notice.
  9. Strong customer focus and communication skills.
  10. Training location may vary based on availability.
Required Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical training (medical assistant or paramedic) preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Work Experience
  • At least three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Minimum two years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.
  • Customer service experience in retail or service settings preferred.
  • Keyboard data entry experience.
