Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to collect and process blood specimens under supervision. You will ensure patient identification, accurate labeling, and proper specimen handling to support laboratory testing.

The role requires 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience, high school diploma or equivalent, and relevant certifications. You will work with a team, maintain patient privacy per HIPAA, and participate in on-site duties during day shift at Foxborough site.

  • Troubleshoot common specimen and order issues within the work area.
  • Provide training and education to new staff as assigned.
  • Handle sharps and biohazardous materials per regulatory requirements.
  • Operate computer systems and comply with HIPAA regulations.

Operates with a moderate level of supervision, identifying and resolving common issues independently. Provide effective training and education to new employees and students as assigned. Essential Functions
  • Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
  • May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves specimen, order, and common operational issues within the work area.
  • Provides some training and education to new staff and students.
  • Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Works fluently with computer programs and systems, and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned.
Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials
  • Phlebotomy Technician [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred
Experience

Experience in phlebotomy 1-2 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
  • Possesses good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
  • Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills and can manage complex patient collections.
  • Works independently and collaborates effectively within a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering a collaborative work environment and respecting individuals with varied experiences and perspectives.
