Powers Health in Crown Point, IN is hiring a Phlebotomist II for full-time evening/day shifts with start times around 11:30-8:00, including weekends. The role involves collecting blood and other specimens for clinical testing, with duties spanning specimen handling, LIS data entry, and possible cross-work in related labs.

The position requires a high school diploma, a certified phlebotomist or EMT-B/paramedic, and active or eligible certification with national boards.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Phlebotomy certification or EMT Basic license, or Paramedic.
• Registered or eligible with NPA/NCA/ASPT/NHA/ASCP and obtain certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens, urine and other specimens from inpatients and outpatients, including outreach phlebotomy.
• Handle specimen collection, delivery to main laboratory, and entry of test orders and specimen information in LIS.
• May cover Medical Assistant and other support workstations as needed.
• Work under supervision of Laboratory Supervisor/Lead Phlebotomist and Laboratory Administrative Director/Site Laboratory Manager.

Education

Phlebotomy certification program / EMT Basic with license / Paramedic

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Phlebotomist serves as a liaison between the hospital laboratory and the patient by collecting blood specimens, urine, and other specimens from both inpatients and outpatients including outreach phlebotomy, under general supervision, according to prescribed aseptic technique, for use in clinical and diagnostic laboratory testing. The Phlebotomist is capable of handling problem-solving regarding appropriate specimen collection, handling, delivery of specimens to the main laboratory for analysis, test order and specimen information entry in LIS, and performs incidental clerical, cleaning and supply duties. Also, this phlebotomist may cover the following workstations: Medical Assistant, and/or support services workstations. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, Charge/Lead Phlebotomist and Laboratory Administrative Director/Site Laboratory Manager.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required High School Graduate or Equivalent

Successful completion of an accredited Phlebotomy certification program, or EMT Basic program with current license, or licensed Paramedic

Registered or eligible with NPA/NCA/ASPT/NHA/ASCP. Must obtain certification within 1 year of hire.
