Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle seeks a part-time phlebotomist to collect specimens and educate patients on self-collection. You will work with patients and staff to ensure accurate labeling and proper specimen handling in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy, equipment prep, patient verification, and documenting variances. Excellent communication and ability to adapt to workload changes are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; WA state MA/Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers mandatory.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy on patients, donors, research participants and employees of all ages.
• Prepare patient and collection equipment according to policies.
• Verify patient name and DOB before procedure and after labeling specimens.
• Instruct patients on proper urine and stool specimen collection.
• Develop professional relationships with colleagues via timely communication.
• Record variances of policies in Patient Safety Net as required.

Working in a fast paced and complex healthcare environment the professional phlebotomist works directly with patients and colleagues to collect specimens via venipuncture and provide patient education for the self-collection of other lab orderables, namely urine and stool.

• Promotes and maintain effective and professional communication with patients, clients, co-workers and Fred Hutch colleagues
• Works efficiently to minimize patient wait times
• Attendance & punctuality – is prompt for work and seeks support and guidance if needed regarding absenteeism

This is a part time .50 FTE position. The location is South Lake Union.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patient and collection equipment according to established specimen collection policies and procedures.
• In collaboration with the patient, verify the patients name and DOB prior to the procedure and after labeling the collected specimens, before the patient leaves the blood draw area.
• Instruct patients on proper collection of urine and stool specimens.
• Develop professional working relationships with colleagues via direct and timely communication.
• Records variances of standard policies and procedures in Patient Safety Net accurately and where required

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• WA State MA/Phlebotomy Certification
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers
• Professional verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adjust to changing workloads.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology

Preferred:

• 6 months working in a fast-paced customer service environment, 6 months phlebotomy experience preferred
• Previous experience working in an outpatient clinic.
• Preferred EPIC/Cadence, answering phones/handling phone inquiries from patients and staff

The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.22 to $31.63 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.

This is a part time .50 FTE position.
