Job summary

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH is seeking a Phlebotomist for the Night shift (36 hours per week) to collect and process blood specimens across all ages. You will ensure proper patient ID, labeling, handling, and transport of specimens, with supervision as needed.

You will also train new staff, maintain HIPAA compliance, and assist with routine duties and testing in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience required.
  • Licenses: Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains quality blood samples using phlebotomy methods for all ages.
  • Ensures accurate patient identification, labeling, processing, transport of specimens.
  • May assist in recovery of patients and provide rapid response in emergencies.
  • Communicates procedures to patients and care teams to ensure satisfaction.
  • Troubleshoots specimen, order, and operational issues within the area.
  • Provides training to new staff and students.
  • Handles sharps and biohazard materials per regulatory requirements.
  • Works with computer systems and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other tests, duties, and collection tasks as assigned.

Job Summary

FT Nights (36 hours/wk) Phlebotomist

Salary Range: $20.25 - $36.00. Pay is based on experience.

$3,000 Sign-On Bonus PLUS Shift Differentials

Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Operates with a moderate level of supervision, identifying and resolving common issues independently. Provides effective training and education to new employees and students as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
  • Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
  • May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves specimen, order, and common operational issues within the work area.
  • Provides training and education to new staff and students.
  • Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Works fluently with computer programs and systems and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other tests, administrative duties, and specimen collection as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials: Phlebotomy Technician [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred

Experience: Experience in phlebotomy 1-2 years required

  • Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
  • Possesses good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
  • Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills and can manage complex patient collections.
  • Works independently and collaborates effectively within a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering a collaborative work environment and respecting individuals with varied experiences and perspectives.
