Job description

Our Client, a Clinical Laboratory company, is looking for a Phlebotomist I for their Woodbridge, VA location.

Responsibilities:

• The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal).
• Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understands all physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
• Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Packages specimens for transport, stores samples according to required temperature, and labels accurately, following specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
• Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual department trainings.
• Answers telephone inquiries and reads laboratory results to satisfy queries.

Requirements:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
