Job summary

AdventHealth in Sebring, FL is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to transport hazardous waste, perform venipuncture and microtainer collection, and ensure proper labeling and intake of specimens. Training will be completed as required, with safety PPE and lab equipment handling emphasized.

The role requires strong organization, ability to work independently or in a team, and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Proficiency in English and basic computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience preferred; training program required for certain positions.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must read, write and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Transport hazardous waste to designated storage area and complete required training.
• Troubleshoot phlebotomy service concerns and coordinate daily workload.
• Perform venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure specimens are labeled correctly and orders are received properly.
• Prioritize routine specimen receipt with first in, first out and address stat/alert specimens.

Job Description:

Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing required training for proper handling and transport.May troubleshoot phlebotomy service concerns and coordinate daily workload assignments. Supports leadership with daily workflow and problem resolution. Serves as an example of professional phlebotomy performance. Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently. Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received properly. Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a “first in – first out” basis, with stat and alert specimens prioritized before routine orders. Follows appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary) Preferred; completion of a phlebotomy training program Required for certain positions.
• Familiarity with using computers, telephone, fax, copier, printers, and various laboratory equipment including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank and microbiology analyzers, glucometers, incubators, environmental hood, monitored refrigerators and freezers, centrifuges, phlebotomy chairs, and supplies. Required for certain roles.
• Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills. Required for specific job functions.

Education:

• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
• Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]

Field of Study:

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred

Work Experience:

• Phlebotomy experience [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Preferred]
• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) [Preferred]

Pay Range:

$15.73 - $25.16
