Job description

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine, fecal).
• Demonstrates technique(s) using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understands all physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
• Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Packages specimens for transport.
• Stores specimen samples according to required temperature; places samples appropriately.

The phlebotomist will be required to float between the following locations:

• 47601 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI 48374
• 44000 W 12 Mile Rd, Suite 110, Novi, MI 48377
• 37595 7 Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48152

A schedule will be created, but there is a possibility that the worker will be requested to move to a different site, with travel time compensated. Candidates must have their own transportation.

All sites are high-volume PSC; the resource will work with a team and be responsible for 25+ sticks per day. Additional responsibilities, including processing, will be trained upon hire. Experience with pediatric patients is a plus. Candidates should have at least 6 months of experience in a high-volume doctor's office, hospital, or outpatient lab, as they are expected to perform efficiently from the start.
