Job summary

NorthShore University HealthSystem is seeking a Phlebotomist I to work full-time at Patient Service Centers in Cook County, IL. The role involves performing various phlebotomy procedures, documenting lab receipts, and ensuring adequate blood sample collection.

The ideal candidate should possess a high school diploma or GED, CPD-BLS certification, and preferably PBT (ASCP) certification. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, along with reliable transportation for site travel.

Qualifications

  • CPR-BLS certification required from the AHA.
  • Phlebotomy training experience strongly preferred.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between sites required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and special phlebotomy procedures.
  • Order tests into laboratory systems and document lab receipts.
  • Collect patient specimens per test requirements.

Job description

Hourly Pay Range

$18.84 - $27.32 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights
  • Position: Phlebotomist I
  • Location: Patient Service Centers; Cook County, IL Locations
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, days shifts with varied start times, e/o weekend and rotating holidays
  • Required Travel: Yes
What you will do
  • Perform a variety of routine and special phlebotomy procedures as authorized by the Supervisor/Manager/Director
  • Responsible for ordering tests into the Laboratory and Hospital computer systems and documenting Lab receipt of specimens
  • Collect patient specimens in accordance with test requirements and in a manner which is appropriate for the age and/or specific patient population served
  • Collect blood samples for specific tests ensuring volume is adequate and correct tubes are utilized
What you will need
  • Education: High school diploma or GED preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Certification: CPR-BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider required from the AHA and PBT (ASCP) certification preferred
  • Experience: Phlebotomy training experience strongly preferred
  • Unique or Preferred Skills: Good communication and organization skills, moderate computer skills needed, reliable transportation to travel between sites required, strong customer service skills.
