Description

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, phlebotomy position located at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

Must be able to work a varied schedule. Start times can vary between 4am - 10:30am and end between 8am - 7pm. Example shifts include 4am - 12:30pm; 5am - 1:30pm; 8am - 4:30pm; 9am - 5:30pm or 10:30am - 7pm.

May alternate between inpatient and outpatient. Will also need to work every other Saturday and Sunday.

The Phlebotomist role reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Phlebotomist provides expert phlebotomy services, demonstrating excellent customer service and communication skills. They must function effectively as part of a team that consistently puts “Patients First”.

The Phlebotomist is responsible for venipuncture collection and specimen processing, including order entry, verification of test results, patient information retrieval, and clerical duties.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Performing phlebotomy and lab specimen collections per standards and departmental policies.
  2. Demonstrating AIDET model and optimizing patient safety.
  3. Receiving and reviewing physician orders, ensuring completeness, and entering accurate orders.
  4. Providing post-phlebotomy patient care.
  5. Processing specimens promptly and properly.
  6. Monitoring refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records.
  7. Operating and maintaining relevant equipment.
  8. Communicating specimen issues to appropriate personnel.
  9. Maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to biohazard procedures.
  10. Performing clerical duties including order entry and inventory management.
  11. Using resources efficiently and participating in cost-reduction efforts.
  12. Completing continuing education and competency assessments.
  13. Demonstrating teamwork and professional interaction.
  14. Applying critical thinking and sound judgment.
  15. Adhering to organizational policies and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from a recognized organization, or training, or one year of healthcare experience, or CMA certification.

Preferred:

  • Experience with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with processing lab specimens and using centrifuges.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
