Job summary

Rivers Health in Point Pleasant, WV is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist for the Laboratory. The role performs phlebotomy, collects specimens, identifies, accessioning and distributing them per hospital standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens from patients using two identifiers.
• Identify, accession, and distribute samples per policy.
• Prepare samples for testing by reference laboratory (e.g., DHL, FedEx).
• Maintain adequate supplies and uphold safety and infection control policies.
• Provide clerical and courier support as assigned.
• On-call duties and rapid response to calls within 15 minutes.

Job description

Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist in the Laboratory.

JOB SUMMARY:

Obtains specimens, identifying, accessioning and distributing them within department standards and hospital policies and procedures. Phlebotomy, clerical and courier functions as assigned. High level of confidentiality required.

1. Collects specimens from patients in a manner that supports the guest relations policy of the hospital. Using 2 identifiers.
2. Identify, accession, and distribute samples within department policy and procedure.
3. Prepare samples properly for testing by reference laboratory in appropriate fashion. (ie: DHL, Airborne, Fedex, US Mail, etc.)
4. Ensures that adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated volume of testing.
5. Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and all other hospital and department policies and procedures.
6. Participates in all mandated inservice programs on an annual basis.
7. Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
8. Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
9. Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams.
10. Other duties that may be assigned.
11. Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.
12. Stocks and cleans work areas as required.
13. Performs general clerical duties, including filing, answering phones, greeting all customers, distributing patient reports.
14. Provide courier services as directed by supervisor to outside accounts, utilizing private or corporate owned vehicles.
15. On call as directed.
16. Respond to all calls within a 15-minute time frame.
17. Must have cell phone close by and charged accordingly.
