The lab phlebotomist performs skin punctures to obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing. Responsible for prompt, accurate processing of test requisitions, accurate charging, registering and ordering tests for outpatients, informing techs of stat and other timed or urgent testing. Distributes and files test results and physician orders, telephones patients, physicians, and nursing units when required. Processes and handles specimens according to lab protocol. Performs capillary testing. Performs EKGs for outpatients. Answers all telephone calls to the lab and transfers calls as needed. Maintains neat and organized collection trays, collection areas, and work areas.
