Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast Lab is seeking a Lab Support Technician (LST I) to provide accurate, timely laboratory support, specimen collection, transport and reporting while upholding HIPAA and Mercy policies. Full-time position on site in Cape Girardeau, MO with 12-hour shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred: College-level Chemistry, Biology or other Science courses.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
• Ability to observe HIPAA confidentiality and lab policies.
• Excellent customer service skills demonstrated in interactions with internal/external customers.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, timely laboratory support for reports, data and scheduling functions.
• Acquire specimens for testing using safe, professional methodologies.
• Process, transport and refer all types of laboratory specimens and reports.
• Exhibit Mercy Signature Service in all interactions with customers.
• Comply with department checklists and lab policies.

The Lab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. In order for the co-worker to achieve the competencies of the LST I position they must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
