Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time phlebotomist to verify patient identification and perform venipuncture for a variety of patients. You will ensure specimens are properly labeled and prepared for testing, while handling duties in specimen processing and basic CLIA testing.

You will also answer calls, assist with inventory and billing support, and train staff in phlebotomy and data entry. This role requires high school graduation and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety.
• Performs Venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Obtains specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times; ensures proper labeling and testing readiness.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines according to policy.
• Answers and screens telephone calls; assists with inventory and billing support.
• Accepts specimens from various customers; processes specimens for testing and manages transport.
• Orders and verifies test requests; documents information for QA; runs quality control checks.
• Performs laboratory result entry and proficiency testing; reviews reports.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and data entry.
• Must demonstrate age-appropriate care knowledge across life span.
