  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
  • Estimate Pay: $19.50 - $24.43/hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays
  • Period of Performance: Base Year (Date of Award), plus four (4) option years.


Working Hours

The Phlebotomist will typically work 8 hours between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The Phlebotomist will not work more than 40 hours a week.

Summary of Duties

Provide Phlebotomy Services in a manner commensurate with the local community. Although not directly supervised, a physician on staff at the institution will review these services.

Qualifications

  • Completed the Phlebotomy training program as an approved state program.
  • Be licensed as a Phlebotomist by the State of Illinois.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of experience.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Copies of all certifications and resumes must be forwarded with your application.


Attire

The Phlebotomist is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved/preferred). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing. Jeans (of any color), t-shirts, sandals, tank tops, and sweatpants/shirts are not considered appropriate professional attire. In the event the Phlebotomists attire does not comply with the expectations of FCI Marion, the Phlebotomist will not be permitted entry inside FCI Marion.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect blood and urine samples and prepare and track all laboratory samples.
  • Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring patients' vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection, and processing within the Health Service Unit, including A&O in-processing, DNA processing per procedure, vaccine programs, and PPD updates.
  • Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Lab guidelines, and document the process per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures. Ensure that lab requests are completed accurately and that all reports are returned from the contract lab. Notify the provider, update the log as received, follow up appropriately, and file or scan the results in the lab and medical record.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
  • Complete and scan into BEMR the Medical Treatment Refusal forms for any AIC that wishes to refuse laboratory testing ordered by clinical staff.
