Job summary

UPMC Altoona Regional Health Services is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to join our dedicated team. The Phlebotomist will perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients, ensuring accurate labeling and patient identification under supervision of Medical Technologists.

You may also handle clerical duties, transport specimens, and support other lab areas as needed. Day shifts, Monday through Friday, with opportunities to grow within a comprehensive benefits and rewards

Responsibilities

Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries.
Procure appropriate blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick; instruct patients on collection procedures.
Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgment to prioritize department needs.
Transports specimens from collection areas to the appropriate section of the laboratory following safety procedures.
Adhere to laboratory/hospital policies on procedures, quality control, safety, hand hygiene and isolation precautions.
Perform related clerical duties; enter demographic information and test orders into information systems; manage test charges/credits.
Train and orient new employees, students and residents as applicable.
Inform technical staff/supervisors/pathologists of unusual or problematic incidents.
May perform arterial puncture following strict collection/post-collection guidelines.
Monitor and maintain supplies for the functions and use materials/reagents cost-effectively.
