Job summary

Trinity Health Saint Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE is seeking a Phlebotomist for a full-time, day-shift role. The position involves drawing blood, labeling specimens, and ensuring accurate data entry into the LIS system, with emphasis on patient care and safety.

Responsibilities include specimen processing, quality assurance participation, and clerical support. Prior phlebotomy experience with infants/children is preferred; certification is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Phlebotomy externship or course experience is desirable.
• Experience with LIS systems is a plus.
• Clerical experience is expected.

Responsibilities

• Approaches patients professionally and identifies patients per policy.
• Enters physician orders accurately into the computer system.
• Collects, transports, and processes specimens with proper procedures.
• Labels specimens with accurate information.
• Processes specimens and add-on requests for analysis.
• Follows universal precautions and safety policies when obtaining specimens.
• Performs LIS support services as required.
• Handles clerical tasks, files reports, and mails documents; maintains phone etiquette.
• Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Maintains phlebotomy schedule to ensure adequate lab staffing.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Title:Phlebotomist

Shift:Days - 8-hour shifts
Location: Saint Francis Hospital - Wilmington, DE

As a Phlebotomist, you will:

• Approaches patients in a professional, caring, friendly, manner. Accurately identifies patients according to policy.

• Ensures that physician orders are correctly, accurately, and completely entered into the computer system.

• Ensures that all specimens are collected, transported, and processed using proper procedures and techniques.

• Ensures that all specimens are correctly and accurately labeled with appropriate information.

• Processes specimens and add-on requests for laboratory analysis.

• Follows Universal Precautions, safety precautions and all appropriate policies and procedures when obtaining specimens.

• Performs laboratory information system (LIS) support services as required.

• Performs clerical functions, files laboratory reports and prescriptions and mails client and send out reports. Demonstrates professional, pleasant, helpful, telephone skills.

• Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement functions.

• Maintains phlebotomy schedule to ensure lab and OP lab are adequately staffed.

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent and previous phlebotomy experience, or completion of a Phlebotomy course of study with externship.

• Phlebotomy Certification preferred.

• Phlebotomy experience with infants and young children.

• Clerical experience.

• Previous laboratory information system experience desirable.
