Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with phlebotomy experience or completed phlebotomy coursework with externship.
• Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• Experience with infants and young children preferred.
• Clerical experience is a plus.
• Prior LIS experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients professionally and identify them according to policy.
• Enter physician orders accurately into the LIS.
• Collect, transport, and process specimens using proper procedures.
• Label specimens with correct information.
• Process specimens and add-on requests for analysis.
• Follow Universal Precautions and safety policies when obtaining specimens.
• Provide LIS support services as required.
• Perform clerical duties and mail/send reports; maintain telephone courtesy.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Maintain phlebotomy schedule to ensure adequate staffing.
• Other duties as assigned.

As a Phlebotomist, you will:

• Approaches patients in a professional, caring, friendly, manner. Accurately identifies patients according to policy.
• Ensures that physician orders are correctly, accurately, and completely entered into the computer system.
• Ensures that all specimens are collected, transported, and processed using proper procedures and techniques.
• Ensures that all specimens are correctly and accurately labeled with appropriate information.
• Processes specimens and add-on requests for laboratory analysis.
• Follows Universal Precautions, safety precautions and all appropriate policies and procedures when obtaining specimens.
• Performs laboratory information system (LIS) support services as required.
• Performs clerical functions, files laboratory reports and prescriptions and mails client and send out reports. Demonstrates professional, pleasant, helpful, telephone skills.
• Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement functions.
• Maintains phlebotomy schedule to ensure lab and OP lab are adequately staffed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent and previous phlebotomy experience, or completion of a Phlebotomy course of study with externship.
• Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience with infants and young children.
• Clerical experience.
• Previous laboratory information system experience desirable.
