Job summary

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is seeking a part-time Laboratory Service Representative at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, PA. The role emphasizes professional, compassionate patient interaction, accurate entry of physician orders, and correct labeling, collection, and transport of specimens.

You will support the LIS, perform clerical tasks, contribute to quality assurance and improvement, and help maintain phlebotomy scheduling while delivering reliable, patient-centered lab services.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience, including with infants and young children.

Responsibilities

• Approach patients in a professional, caring, friendly, manner and identify patients.
• Enter physician orders accurately into the LIS and computer system.
• Ensure proper specimen collection, labeling, transport, and processing.
• Process specimens and add-on requests for laboratory analysis.
• Follow Universal Precautions and safety procedures when obtaining specimens.
• Provide LIS support services as required.
• Perform clerical tasks, file reports, mail documents, and handle telephone communications.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Maintain phlebotomy schedule to ensure adequate staffing of the lab and OP lab.
• Other duties as assigned.

As a Laboratory Service Representative, you will:

• Approach patients in a professional, caring, friendly, manner. Accurately identify patients according to policy.
• Ensure that physician orders are correctly, accurately, and completely entered into the computer system.
• Ensure that all specimens are collected, transported, and processed using proper procedures and techniques.
• Ensure that all specimens are correctly and accurately labeled with appropriate information.
• Process specimens and add-on requests for laboratory analysis.
• Follow Universal Precautions, safety precautions and all appropriate policies and procedures when obtaining specimens.
• Perform laboratory information system (LIS) support services as required.
• Perform clerical functions, files laboratory reports and prescriptions and mails client and send out reports. Demonstrate professional, pleasant, helpful, telephone skills.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement functions.
• Maintain phlebotomy schedule to ensure lab and OP lab are adequately staffed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent and previous phlebotomy experience, or completion of a Phlebotomy course of study with externship.
• Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience with infants and young children.
