Job Description

This is a full-time position: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4 pm, with rotating Saturday shifts from 8 am - 12 pm.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Use appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures.
  2. Process STAT specimens according to Summit Health SOP.
  3. Prepare collection containers with preservatives and instruct patients on specimen collection at home (Urine & Stool). Measure and record volumes for 24-hour collections.
  4. Collect COC Urine Drug Screens properly.
  5. Administer and collect H. pylori Breath tests correctly.
  6. Handle orders for minors appropriately.
  7. Complete paperwork and label specimens for OVH Blood Bank accurately.
  8. Process satellite specimens and deliver to the appropriate department.
  9. Monitor inventory levels and replenish supplies as needed.
  10. Manage order cancellations and documentation, ensuring proper patient charge deletion.
  11. Recall patients for follow-up or error correction, documenting callbacks.
  12. Utilize LIS for all applicable functions, including downtime procedures.
  13. Adapt work schedule to meet staffing needs in emergencies.
  14. Demonstrate competency in adult, pediatric, and infant phlebotomy, skin punctures, and bleeding times, including documentation and proper technique.
General Job Functions
  1. Check-in patients at satellite labs and manage specimen transport.
  2. Perform and log rapid tests, notify physicians of critical results.
  3. Train new staff on lab policies and procedures.
  4. Perform other duties as required.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Endurance for prolonged standing, walking, and bending.
  • Handle risks associated with sharps, latex, and patient interactions.
  • Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and infectious hazards.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of phlebotomy experience; drug screen collection preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification (NHA) preferred; CLA Certificate preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA, lab requirements, and computer skills.
  • Ability to multitask, communicate effectively, and follow procedures accurately.
Travel

Travel to satellite locations as needed.
