Job summary

Hillsdale Hospital in Hillsdale, MI is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture and specimen collection, with front desk duties in the outpatient lab. Work schedule includes full-time hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm, plus rotating Saturday shifts.

Saturday premium of $2.00/hour applies. Requirements include a high school diploma, phlebotomy program completion preferred, ASCP certification desirable, and BLS certification available through Hillsdale Hospital.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy skills and patient handling experience.
• Basic knowledge of safety and specimen labeling.
• Excellent communication with patients and clinical staff.

Responsibilities

• Uses venipuncture and skin puncture techniques to obtain blood samples.
• Instructs patients on proper urine, stool, and other collections.
• Ensures correct labeling and sample quality.
• Maintains laboratory operating procedures and safety.
• Orders and distributes supplies; notifies when stock is low.
• Performs receptionist duties at the outpatient lab front desk.

Work Schedule and Shift Premiums

Full Time | 40 hours/week including some Saturday hours on a rotation | 8:30am - 5pm Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 12:00pm when working on Saturdays

Saturday premium is an additional $2.00/hour

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required from an accredited institution
• Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred but not required. ASCP certification desirable
• Previous phlebotomy experience in healthcare setting preferred but not required
• BLS certification (available through Hillsdale Hospital)

Responsibilities

• Uses appropriate techniques and procedures to obtain blood samples by venipuncture and skin puncture. Instruct patients on proper collection procedures for urine collection, stool collection, and other miscellaneous collections
• Correctly labels all specimens and checks for quality
• Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients
• Maintains laboratory operating procedures
• Orders and distributes supplies as needed along with notifying appropriate individual when supplies are low
• Also performs receptionist duties at the front desk of the outpatient lab
