Location: Waukegan, IL | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, 11:30am -8pm M-F (contract, 3 months, potential for perm)

Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and processing to support patient care and diagnostic testing.

What you\'ll do

• Perform blood draws and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians\' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Troubleshoot issues, assist with training, and make workflow recommendationsRecord maintenance data and perform decontamination duties
• Update patient information

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months\' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
