Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to support its laboratory operations on a contract basis, projected for 3 months with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and smooth laboratory workflow for patient care.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine, fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy
• Package and store specimens at required temperatures, using appropriate containers and labeling for transport integrity
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed
• Record maintenance data, perform decontamination duties, and update patient information
• Troubleshoot issues and recommend workflow improvements

Required qualifications
