The Keystone Distinction Group is seeking a Phlebotomist in Glen Burnie, MD and surrounding areas. This contract role involves float coverage with mileage reimbursement and benefits where available.

Schedule is 1st shift, M-F, with one Saturday per month, 8-hour shifts, and potential for permanent placement after 3 months. Responsibilities include performing venipunctures, labeling and processing specimens, and ensuring proper handling and transport, all while adhering to physician orders and

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed.
• Minimum 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains the venipuncture process in a clear but courteous manner.
• Demonstrate technique using straight and butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Check requisitions against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimens per required temperature and protocol to maintain integrity of samples.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Location: Glen Burnie, MD and area -float

Schedule: 1st Shift 6AM to 7PM M-F and will be required to cover 1 Saturday shift a month. Shifts will be 8 hours so depending on the location may start as early as 6AM or end as late as 7PM

The candidates home base will be the office closest to where they live. The areas of coverage will be Baltimore City, Glen Burnie and Columbia- not a guarantee they will go to all these locations, may have to cover Clarksburg, Frederick and Olney.

Requires pediatric and geriatric experience.

Summary:

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required
• Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
• Package specimens for transport
• Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states
• Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital settingProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
