Location: Camillus, NY | Schedule: Contract, full-time, on-site, Monday-Friday 7:30AM-430PM with Rotating Saturdays 7:00AM-12:00PM | Compensation: Benefits are available

Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection, patient care, and smooth laboratory workflow.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and complete decontamination procedures
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature storage, container placement, labeling, and adherence to protocol to maintain specimen integrity
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• 2 to 4 years of experience required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
