Job summary

Software Placement Group (SPG) is seeking a Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations in Saint Petersburg, FL for a contract engagement with potential for permanent placement.

The role involves blood draws, specimen labeling, and maintaining specimen integrity in a fast-paced clinical setting. On-site work from 6am to 2:30pm, Monday through Friday, with OSHA and DEP regulatory compliance a must.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in phlebotomy or specimen collection.
• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in some states.
• 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities.
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients as required.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Match requisition forms to specimens and ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity during transport.

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations for a contract engagement with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and patient service within a fast-paced clinical environment.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) as required
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and communicate laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
