Job Summary
Consistently performs venipunctures and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages. Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work environment and appropriate utilization of lab supplies. Follows laboratory policies and procedures.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Understand the importance of patient identification and proper collection techniques for optimal samples.
- Has thorough knowledge of specimen requirements.
- Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
- Performs quality control procedures and instrument checks.
- Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.
- Meets current documentation standards and policies.
- Interacts professionally with the Laboratory Director, physicians, medical staff, laboratory staff and patients.
- Follows standard precautions at all times.
- Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CMS, state and other regulatory requirements.
- Completes duties in a time efficient manner, knows how to prioritize STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders and outpatients.
- Seeks guidance and direction as necessary.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Professional Requirements
- Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual educational requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations.
- Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty.
- Completes in services and returns in a timely fashion.
- Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with coworkers.
- Attends annual review and departmental in-services as scheduled.
- Attends staff meetings; reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and quality improvement (QI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.
- Uses AIDET with each patient interaction.
Regulatory Requirements

- Current BCLS certification.
