Job summary

Valor Healthcare, Inc. seeks a full-time Phlebotomist at our Washington, PA clinic to support patient care under clinical supervision and collaborate with the PACT team.

You will perform phlebotomy, operate EKG equipment, process labs, coordinate appointments, and provide patient education while upholding VA compliance and patient confidentiality, contributing to a high-quality patient experience.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in phlebotomy from an accredited program; state approval required; phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience as MA in a primary care or ambulatory setting; government healthcare environment preferred.
  • Must be in good standing with VA; credentialing may be required based on VA contract.
  • Unrestricted professional license in the state of desired employment or as per VA contracts.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification (valid) and ACLS as required by VA contract.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong computer skills with EMR experience.
  • Energetic, optimistic demeanor with strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules clinic appointments and handles PCMM assignments.

  • Provides patient and family health education focusing on self-management and prevention.
  • Maintains confidentiality of veterans’ data.
  • Participates in outreach events to support enrollment initiatives.

Position Summary

The Phlebotomist provides assistance in the examination and treatment of patients with diseases and injuries seeking treatment in the clinic, under clinical supervision. Collaborates with the core PACT Team (Primary Care Provider, RN and LPN/LVN) and expanded PACT Team including family/caregiver, VA, and community-based services involved in developing the patient care plan.

Core Responsibilities
  • Actively assists with patient care, physical examinations, and ancillary tests.
  • Operates electrocardiograph (EKG) and other diagnostic equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests and treatments, including glucometers, pulse oximeters, nebulizers, oxygen equipment, spirometry, eye exams, etc.
  • Submits any received laboratory and radiology results to medical providers and provides private practice results to VA for scanning or scans results into patient’s medical records after the provider has reviewed.
  • Schedule clinic appointments. Specific responsibilities relative to scheduling, PCMM assignments; Save and Recapture duties related to PACT team assignment.
  • Verifies any and all clinical reminders “due” at the time of each patient visit are completed prior to check out.
  • Complies with all VA and company training requirements.
  • Assists in co-managed care collaboration with non-VA providers, and facilities.
  • Provides patient and family health education with a focus on self-management, prevention, wellness, related health issues and healthy lifestyle choices. Advises in services available through community resources.
  • Maintains confidentiality of veterans’ data and information.
  • Fulfill compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission(JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance and other related items.
  • Remain focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through the specified VA guidelines.
  • Must provide excellent customer service to each veteran, both in person and over the phone, as well as to fellow colleagues and clinic visitors.
  • Participate in the clinic’s outreach events to help support the clinic’s enrollment initiatives.
  • Support patient enrollment and retention in appointments, follow-up visits or nurse visits.
  • Embrace and support new initiatives, whether clinical or operational
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Diploma or certificate of an accredited program as approved by the state. Certified and experienced in phlebotomy preferred.
  • Minimum two-years’ experience as an MA in a related primary care or ambulatory care setting; government healthcare environment preferred. Specific requirements could vary based on individual VA contract.
  • Must be remain in good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA). Credentialing may be required based on the individual VA contract.
  • Must comply with and maintain all requirements for a valid, unrestricted license in the state of desired employment, or in any U.S. state or territory, depending on VA contractual requirements.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (must be renewed periodically as specified by the certifying agency - AHA valid for two years, e.g.) and in ACLS as specified by individual VAMC contract
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong computer skills, including EMR experience
  • Energetic and optimistic demeanor, with exceptional customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • This is considered a safety sensitive position.
