Job summary

WakeMed Health & Hospitals is seeking a Clinical Services Technician to collect specimens from patients of all ages and to process and allocate laboratory specimens and orders from various sources.

You will verify patient and specimen identification, organize workflow, perform routine maintenance and quality control, and troubleshoot equipment as needed. Related duties may be assigned based on department needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• 1 Year Related Position Experience preferred.
• Experience with specimen processing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens from patients of all ages as assigned with minimal patient impact.
• Process and allocate laboratory specimens and orders from all sources.
• Verify proper patient and specimen identification and accompanying orders.
• Organize laboratory workflow and prioritize processing and distribution of specimens.
• Perform routine maintenance and quality control procedures on equipment and troubleshoot as needed.
• Document procedures and responsibilities as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

The Clinical Services Technician collects specimens on all age populations as assigned with minimal patient impact. Responsible for the processing and allocation of laboratory specimens and orders from all sources. Responsible for verification of proper patient and specimen identification, appropriateness of specimen and accompanying orders. Organizes laboratory workflow and appropriately prioritizes processing and distribution of specimens. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems to test request, accession, correctly label and deliver specimens to appropriate laboratory sections within acceptable time frames. Performs specified procedures within scope of established testing methods and responsibilities. Performs and appropriately documents routine maintenance and quality control procedures on specified equipment and troubleshoots as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
