Yale NewHaven Health in New Haven, CT, is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens via venipuncture, heel and fingerstick, and to ensure specimen integrity throughout transport. Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; knowledge of phlebotomy and medical terminology.
  • Completion of an approved phlebotomy certification program, or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Certification in phlebotomy preferred but not required.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills; ability to solve problems and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Interact courteously with laboratory customers and respond to requests.
  • Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick following patient ID procedures.
  • Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures, including non-blood samples as needed.
  • Demonstrate dependability and prioritize tasks to meet departmental needs.
  • Collect and transport specimens adhering to safety procedures.
  • Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies, including quality control, safety, and hygiene protocols with PPE.
  • Enter demographics and test information accurately; create tracking logs.
  • If applicable, perform testing.
  • Train and orient new employees and students as required.
  • Notify staff of unusual incidents; monitor supplies and manage costs.
  • Participate in continuing education for phlebotomy and maintain patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • 3.Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures, including non-blood samples as needed.
  • 4.Demonstrate dependability and reliability, prioritizing tasks to meet departmental needs.
  • 5.Collect and transport specimens, adhering to safety procedures.
  • 6.Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies, including quality control, safety, and hygiene protocols, this includes appropriate PPE.
  • 7.Perform related clerical duties, entering accurate demographic and test information create tracking logs into systems.
  • 8.If applicable, perform testing.
  • 9.Train and orient new employees and students as required.
  • 10.Notify technical staff and supervisors of any unusual or problematic incidents. Monitor and maintain supplies, using materials efficiently to control costs.
  • 11.Participate in continuing education for phlebotomy to ensure the latest techniques and safety protocols are followed. Maintain confidentiality according to healthcare laws and regulations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of phlebotomy and Medical Terminology.

EXPERIENCE

Completion of an approved phlebotomy certification program, or equivalent experience acquired through on-the-job training.

LICENSURE

Certification in phlebotomy preferred but not required.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Basic computer and keyboarding skills required. Ability to solve problems and work independently.
