Job summary

Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island seeks a Phlebotomist to draw blood from inpatients and outpatients and to support specimen handling within the laboratory. This role requires accurate patient identification, proper labeling, and adherence to hospital policies.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• Prior experience in phlebotomy.
• Certified or certified eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred. Must have a current driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Phlebotomy: uses proper patient identification and specimen labeling procedures.
• Accessioning and receiving specimens: accurately and timely receives specimens into the laboratory.
• Customer service: uses AIDET principles when performing phlebotomy and demonstrates concern for patient comfort and privacy.
• People: interacts professionally with all members of the hospital staff.
• Problem solving: reviews patient vouchers and registrations for accuracy and corrects them as indicated.
• Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens: accurately orders tests in the hospital and laboratory computer systems.
• Regulation compliance: complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
• Other duties: responsible for cleanliness of courier vehicle if applicable.
