Job summary

Atlantic Health System is seeking a Phlebotomist in Morristown, NJ to ensure accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling. You will support patient comfort and safety and educate patients during procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Specimen Collection: Accurately interprets provider test orders and follows SOPs for all specimen collections.
  • Specimen Accessioning: Uses HIS and LIS for patient registration and test order entry.
  • Specimen Processing: Evaluates orders and specimens for acceptability; labels aliquots; identifies defects.
  • Computer: Proficient in HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions.
  • Team Member Training: Assists with training of team members and students.
  • Patient Experience/Customer Service: Provides compassionate, patient-centered care and adheres to PRIDE and AIDET principles.
  • Safety Practices: Follows department safety procedures per policies and regulatory agencies.
  • Technical Equipment Operation: Operates and maintains equipment per SOPs.
  • Inventory Management: Tracks quantities and expiration dates of supplies.

Job description

Under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, the Phlebotomist ensures accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling. They maintain a clean environment, support patient comfort and safety, and help educate and reassure patients during procedures.

  • Specimen Collection: Accurately interprets provider test orders and follows approved standard operating procedures for all specimen collections.
  • Specimen Accessioning: Accurately uses the HIS and LIS for patient registration and test order entry.
  • Specimen Processing:
    • Evaluates provider test orders and collected specimens for acceptability and determines rejections according to established guidelines.
    • Accurately labels aliquot samples as required.
    • Recognizes and corrects defects before they are passed on to the next step of the process.
  • Computer: Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of the HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions.
  • Team Member Training: Assists with training of team members and students.
  • Patient Experience/Customer Service: Models compassionate, patient-centered care by ensuring comfort during specimen collection, addressing concerns with empathy, and maintaining a professional, respectful demeanor to enhance the overall patient experience. Communicates effectively through the adherence of the PRIDE (Purpose, Respect, Innovation, Diversity & Inclusion, Extraordinary Care) values. Adheres to the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) model.
