Job summary

The Cancer & Hematology Centers is seeking a patient-focused Phlebotomist to support diagnostic testing close to home. You will perform venipunctures, collect specimens, and ensure accurate patient identification and labeling.

You will enter patient data into the laboratory information system, manage test orders, and maintain a clean, compliant phlebotomy area while assisting the medical team with related tasks and patient care.

Qualifications

• Proficient venipuncture and specimen collection.
• Accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.
• Experience entering test orders and results in LIS/LIS-like system.
• Adherence to safety policies and proper handling of specimens.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and finger sticks according to policy.
• Identify patients accurately and label/process specimens correctly.
• Determine suitable collection tubes for requested tests.
• Monitor phlebotomy supplies and notify when replenishment is needed.
• Enter new patients into the lab information system and order tests.
• Maintain a clean, safe phlebotomy area and report hazards.
• Assist the medical technologist with related tasks and care coordination.
• Perform other duties as assigned and support compassionate care.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• 1. Responsible for performing venipunctures and finger sticks in accordance with written policies and procedures.
• 2. Responsible for accurately identifying patients and properly labeling and handling specimens.
• 3. Determines and draws the proper collection tubes for tests requested.
• 4. Responsible for monitoring phlebotomy supplies and notifying manager when replenishing needed.
• 5. Able to correctly enter new patients into the laboratory information system and properly order tests on existing patients. Designate in system where send out tests are sent. Able to print and fax reports through system.
• 6. Maintain a safe working environment by strict adherence to company safety policies and procedures. Is alert to the existence of safety hazards and reports any unsafe conditions to the safety officer. Keeps phlebotomy area clean and well stocked.
• 7. Able to assist the medical technologist with a variety of tasks when applicable such as answering the phone, balancing lab billing, ordering send out tests, coordinating patient care with the physicians and nurses, helping with blood product distribution and assisting with bone marrow biopsies.
• 8. All other duties as assigned. Providing advanced treatments and compassionate care close to home.
