Job summary

OneOncology is seeking a dedicated laboratory support professional to oversee daily lab tasks, collect specimens, and assist with phlebotomy in a fast-paced cancer care setting. The role includes handling specimens, answering calls, and supporting providers during procedures.

Candidates should have a high school diploma and at least two years of phlebotomy-related experience, with strong people skills and confidentiality.

  • Two years related work experience including phlebotomy.
  • Exceptional people skills in the medical field and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily Lab Visit list, completing the collection record, printing labels, receiving specimens and prioritizing patient blood draws.
  • Answer the lab phone and assist callers with questions and requests.
  • Load and unload the centrifuge along with organizing the specimens for in-house and send out testing.
  • Load specimens onto the Sysmex instrument to initiate test analysis.
  • Assist the providers during bone marrow biopsies.
  • Provide phlebotomy duties as needed.
  • Maintain lab supply inventory and complete order forms for needed supplies.
  • Assist with preparing and sending out Molecular Test Kits.
  • Perform specimen ordering, collecting, processing and packaging for send out testing; interact with peers and other departments to support patient services.
  • Function as a team member to facilitate optimal workflow within the cancer center.

Job Description

  • Responsible for answering the lab phone and assisting callers with their questions and requests.
  • Responsible for loading and unloading the centrifuge along with organizing the specimens for in-house and send out testing.
  • Responsible for loading specimens onto the Sysmex instrument to initiate test analysis.
  • Responsible for assisting the providers during bone marrow biopsies.
  • Responsible for providing phlebotomy duties as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining lab supply inventory and complete order forms for needed supplies.
  • Assist with preparing and sending out Molecular Test Kits.
  • Able to perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to specimen ordering, collecting, processing and packaging for send out testing. Able to interact with peers and other departments in a manner that is viewed as having a positive effect on patient services and CHC staff morale. Interacts effectively with patients and family members demonstrating sensitivity in regard to cultural diversity, age specific needs, confidentiality and all abilities.
  • Functions as a team member by expanding responsibilities as directed by management to facilitate optimal workflow within the cancer center.
Job Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Two years related work experience including phlebotomy
  • Other: Exceptional people skills in the medical field. Ability to maintain composure during extremely busy times. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently at a fast pace with minimal supervision. Able to maintain confidentiality. 95% of time spent standing / walking. High attention to detail needed.
