Phlebotomist – We Train

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist in determining the suitability of donors.
• Establish rapport with donors to ensure overall customer happiness while maintaining donor confidentiality.
• Respond to and assist with handling donor reactions.
• Monitor donor and equipment to ensure donor health and product quality.
• Set up, disconnect, and operate automated plasmapheresis machines.
• Disconnect and dispose of all contaminated disposable equipment.

Occupational Demands

Work is performed in a plasma center. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment. Exposure to extreme cold below 32°F while working in plasma freezer. Personal protective equipment such as protective eyewear, garments, gloves, and cold-gear is required. Work involves sitting or standing for entire shifts, bending, and twisting the neck and waist for 1-2 hours per day. Frequent hand movements; ability to make quick, simple movements of fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise, coordinated movements of fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Frequent foot movement; may infrequently squat, crouch, or sit on heels. Light lifting of 15 lbs, with a maximum of 50 lbs. May reach below shoulder height. Hearing acuity is essential. Color perception/discrimination, near vision, and far vision are correctable in one eye to 20/30 and in the other eye to 20/100. Ability to understand and follow instructions to complete tasks. Must listen to and comprehend spoken information and perform tasks within the guidance of oral or written instructions. Performs a wide range of complex tasks dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability. Relates sensitive information to diverse groups.
